Juvela make a variety of products and I find the ‘long life’ – ready sliced variety is excellent. Many GF breads are dry and dificult to use for sandwiches but the Juvela GF sliced loaf makes great sandwiches which stay moist for a day.

Available on prescription too this range is one of the best tasting breads too. Not suitable for wheat, milk or lactose free diets. They use GF wheat starch in this product.

Lightly toast 2 slices of this product back to back in a toaster to make sandwiches.

I take this away on holidays with me as it lasts well, on flights the sealed packaging will expand with the pressure – also at altitude it expands so if you take it on a ski holiday you might find your bags difficult to open if you have several loafs in there.

Try this for a snack or an aperitif. Sainsburys Somerset Goats Cheese ( round type) slice it thin and place it on bread. the bread should be fully toasted one side, then buttered and partly toasted on the other side before you drop the cheese onto it for a final grilling. Serve this up with salad.. excellent!

It makes a great quick snack, I recommend Juvela white sliced loaf with this, you could even cut the bread into circles by using a large mug to cut off the crusts to make the presentation a little more special.

I love cheese, all types of cheese but I don’t like these!

They are so bad I once used them – as a threat to my three year old – if he didn’t eat his dinner up – he’d get one for his afters! He ate his dinner!!
Doves Farm make some really good cookies though – how these got through their quality tests I don’t know.

I tried some Barkat Pretzel Sticks and have to be honest was not too impressed, they tasted a little odd, a bit of a pasty texture and a slightly bland flavour – though the massive chunks of salt made your mouth water – but how good for you is that?

Walkers do some excellent snacks such as the Sensations mini Poppadoms range, I’ll be writing something up on those soon.

Always a winner during the festive season these are just really moist and taste fantastic, the pastry is excellent!

Available in Sainsbury’s and from GFF direct (www.glutenfreefoodsdirect.co.uk)

Made with Parellada grapes, this is another astonishing yet reasonably priced white wine from the Torres family.

Light and fruity.

Gluten free pork pies are something of a rarity, these are pretty good for snacks or to fill out a packed lunch. Authentic pork pies, with a pretty tasty pastry glazed with egg – wrapped around lean pork, peppered with sage.

Made by hand on a farm in Claxton North Yorkshire where they raise their own animals.

Available frozen from GFF direct.

I’m not a great fan of Chardonnay but the Sauvignon Blanc grapes really lift this wine and make it a pretty good mix.

Last night I shared a bottle of Kumala Zenith wine (Kumala suggest this is one of their top wines on the Kumala.com website).

I got a really bad head the next morning- what the heck do they put in that wine to make it so consistently painful?

This was a Merlot/ Pinotage and Shiraz mix [ and tasted quite nice ]. It seems every time I talk to friends about Kumala wines /white or red – they usually blame it for them feeling rough in the morning – even if its only 2 glasses worth.

Taking paracetamol tablets all day didn’t come near to clearing my ‘hangover’ up.
Think I’ll pass next time I get offered a glass!
